South County soccer teams prep for league play

Local girls and boys soccer teams began the second week of non-league play last week in preparation for league play that will start in January.

For the first time in school history, the Soledad High School frosh-soph girls track and field team won the Mission Trail Athletic League championship.

Two teams from King City, two teams from Soledad and one team from Gonzales have qualified to play in the semifinals of the California District 9 Little League All-Star Playoffs.

Senior players Lauren Johnson of King City High and Celeste Canchola of Soledad High were chosen to the Mission Trail Athletic League first-team at a meeting of league coaches.

Students from Carrillo’s Karate Do Studios in King City and Greenfield came home with medals after competing on Saturday at the 29th Annual Fall Karate Championships and Demonstration at Homestead High School in Cupertino.

Cross Country | New Center Meets begin

Cross country dual meets have been eliminated this season as the newly formed Pacific Coast Athletic League has opted to run Center Meets with the new divisions competed in various venues.

Best of the class

Athletes from Gonzales, Soledad, Greenfield and King City were enshrined into the Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2017 on Saturday, Nov. 4, at Hartnell College.

Emily Espino to play ball in San Diego

Emily Espino, the 19-year-old daughter of Lorenzo and Denise of King City will be continuing her education and softball playing at San Diego Christian College next year after signing a Letter of Intent last week at Hartnell College.
