South County football players took the field for one last time high school players last Friday at the 33rd Annual All-Star High School Football Game at Rabobank Football Stadium in Salinas. Six players from Soledad, two players from Greenfield, two from King City, and one from Gonzales High participated in the game.

7 on 7 league begins

The seven on seven passing league for South County high school football teams start today at 5 pm at Soledad High School.

Greenfield girls win at Catalina

Maria Hernandez scored 10 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Greenfield Lady Bruin basketball team to a 48-33 win in Monterey against the host Santa Catalina Cougars on Feb. 6.

Scholarship runners

Three South County high school runners were awarded scholarships for their accomplishments as runners and their work in the classroom by the Monterey Bay Wednesday Night Laundry Runners (WNLR).

A balanced offensive attack by Seaside High wore down the host Soledad Aztecs in the season opener for both football teams.

Valley of the runners

A nice cloud cover protected the lead runners on Saturday during the Salinas Valley Half Marathon that began at the Soledad Mission and finished 13.1 miles later at Pessagno Winery in Gonzales.

Courrejou selected to Hall of Fame

Gonzales High multi-athlete Michelle Courrejou of the Class of 1981 has been chosen as a member of the Hartnell College Athletic Hall of Fame for 2017.

PLAYOFFS BEGIN

Two teams from King City, two teams from Soledad and one team from Gonzales have qualified to play in the semifinals of the California District 9 Little League All-Star Playoffs.

The King City High School football team opened the regular season with a 37-20 setback against the Monte Vista Christian Mustangs last Friday night in Watsonville.

Greenfield Bruins sink Harbor Pirates, 48-22

Greenfield High running back Jose Uribe rushed for a season-best of 168 yards in the Bruins 48-22 Mission Trail Athletic League opener in Santa Cruz.
