The Greenfield Bruin baseball team lost 2-1 in extra innings to the host Half Moon Bay Cougars on Saturday in a non-league game.

The Gonzales Little League 11 and 12-year-old All-Star baseball team began the All-Star Tournament last weekend with wins over King City and Ferrasci.

Led by three weight class winners, the Gonzales High wrestling team placed sixth overall at the Apple Cider Wrestling Tournament on Saturday in Watsonville.

Two teams from King City, two teams from Soledad and one team from Gonzales have qualified to play in the semifinals of the California District 9 Little League All-Star Playoffs.

Three losses at the North Salinas Bob Steinbach Classic did not dampen the optimism of Greenfield’s first-year head coach Adam Barsenas. The Bruins fell to 1-7 with one non-league game remaining to play.

Greenfield High School 2004 graduate Adam Barsenas has just completed his first month as the new head football coach for the Bruins. The 32-year-old Barsenas wants to revive the football program as they enter the newly formed Pacific Coast Athletic League.

The organizers of the Salinas Valley Half Marathon are launching an 11-week training program beginning May 16, designed to teach runners of all abilities and experience to reach their goals.

Led by first place finishers Luis Meza and Maria Hernandez the Greenfield boys and girls won the varsity divisions of the Valley Meet on Thursday at King City’s San Lorenzo Park. The cross country meet featured South County teams Greenfield, Soledad and host King City.

Mustang soccer great and 1987 King City graduate Ramon Bravo was selected by the King City High School Athletic Hall of Fame Committee last week. Bravo was an outstanding soccer player for the Mustangs.
