The Greenfield boys cross country team placed second in the Central Coast Division III championships on Saturday to earn a trip to the State Meet.

Turnovers and the inability to capitalize on an opponent’s turnovers cost the Greenfield High football in its 29-7 non-league loss to the North Monterey County Condors last Friday in Castroville.

A sixth straight championship also meant an end of an era for the King City boys track and field team. The Mustangs won the Mission Trail Athletic League in what was the last championship meet for them in the MTAL as next year King City, Gonzales, Greenfield and Soledad will be members of the Pacific Coast Athletic League.

Greenfield High School 2004 graduate Adam Barsenas has just completed his first month as the new head football coach for the Bruins. The 32-year-old Barsenas wants to revive the football program as they enter the newly formed Pacific Coast Athletic League.

Four wins on Saturday earned the King City Lady Mustang volleyball team the championship of the Gold Division at Saturday’s Everett Alvarez Volleyball Tournament in Salinas.

The Greenfield Lady Bruin softball team completed the regular season in the Coastal Athletic League and won a co-championship with the King City Mustangs as both teams finished with 11-4 records.

Team members, coaches and families for the Greenfield High Lady Bruin softball team celebrated a successful season with an awards night presentation and banquet May 23 at the school’s student union.

Two players and a coach from South County were honored by the Coastal Athletic League for their work on the softball field this spring.
