Jamboree kicks off South County football season

The football season begins Friday for South County high schools at the South County Jamboree at War Memorial Stadium. The jamboree will kick off at 5 pm with a JV jamboree followed afterwards by the varsity jamboree.

Local teams compete at invitational track meets

Track and field teams from Gonzales, Greenfield and King City traveled to meets in Castroville and Pacific Grove this past weekend to complete the Easter break.

South County teams run at invitational

The Greenfield High varsity boys cross country team placed third in their division at the Chieftain-Spirit Classic Invitational on Saturday at Toro Regional Park in Salinas. The meet featured over 700 runners competed in three divisions for the boys and girls.

Boxers fight in San Leandro

Local fighters Kevin Perez and Ivan Almanza represented the San Ardo Boxing Club on Saturday in a boxing show in San Leandro.

King City girls defeat Stevenson, 8-5

Julie Arreola hit a double and a triple with four runs batted in to lead the King City Lady Mustangs to an 8-5 win over the host Robert Louis Stevenson Pirates last Tuesday in Pebble Beach.

Athletes to compete at CCS semifinals

Track and field athletes from all four South County high schools will be running, throwing, and jumping on Saturday at the Central Coast Section Track and Field Semifinals at Gilroy High School.

Cross Country | Mustang boys win invitational

With five runners in the top six places the King City varsity boys cross country team easily won their division at Saturday’s Jackie Henderson Memorial Invitational hosted by North Monterey High School in Castroville. King City scored 17 points to easily defeat second place San Benito with 66 points. Soledad High placed fifth in the division.

Greenfield Bruins win battle of bears

An early miscue for a touchdown was quickly forgotten on Saturday as the Greenfield High Bruins outscored the Pajaro Valley Grizzlies 48-0 the rest of the way in a 48-6 season-opener at Cabrillo College in Aptos.

KC improves to 14-7 after win streak

Three wins in four days last week helped the King City Mustangs improve their overall record to 14-7.
