An inspired Marina Mariners football started strong and finished strong in a 47-16 win over the host Greenfield High Bruins last Friday in Greenfield.

The Greenfield High boys basketball is 0-10 in the Mission Trail Athletic League as they lost three games last week to Soledad, Pacific Grove and Oakwood.

A trio of track and field athletes from Soledad, King City and Gonzales will represent their high schools and South County at Friday’s Central Coast Section Track and Field Championships at Gilroy High School.

A 35-14 loss to the ranked Antioch Panthers did not dampen the spirits of the Soledad Aztec football as they fell to 0-2 at the start on non-league play.

Gonzales High multi-athlete Michelle Courrejou of the Class of 1981 has been chosen as a member of the Hartnell College Athletic Hall of Fame for 2017.

The Greenfield JV baseball team outscored Gonzales High 29-10 in two games to claim the season series against the Spartan JV’s.

Six players scored touchdowns as the King City Mustangs beat Greenfield 50-20 on Friday night at War Memorial Stadium for the final regular season game for both teams. King City improved to 6-4 and Greenfield fell to 3-7 overall after the non-league loss.

The Greenfield Lady Bruins won their third league game last week, defeating the King City Lady Mustangs 10-9 last Tuesday in Greenfield.

Two victories last week improved the Soledad High volleyball teams record to 3-1 in the Mission Trail Athletic League and 5-3 overall. Other South County teams, however, suffered losses this past week.

The football season begins Friday for South County high schools at the South County Jamboree at War Memorial Stadium. The jamboree will kick off at 5 pm with a JV jamboree followed afterwards by the varsity jamboree.
