Fight leads to 1 dead in Greenfield

GREENFIELD — A Greenfield man is facing murder charges after police say he stabbed his brother Sunday evening following an argument at their home.

According to the South County Major Crimes Investigations Unit, Greenfield police officers responded to a report of a stabbing Oct. 21 at about 6:55 p.m. in the 50 block of Ninth Street.

Upon arrival, officers found the victim — Christian Elizondo Pacheco, 20, of Greenfield — inside a room in the residence suffering from puncture wounds to the body.

Life-saving measures were performed by the responding officers and paramedics who arrived on scene, but they were unable to revive Pacheco, who died from his injuries.

“The preliminary investigation determined the victim got into a fight and was stabbed by the suspect,” police said Monday in a news release. “Investigators from the Major Crimes Unit were called to investigate the incident.”

An investigation revealed that Pacheco and his brother, 19-year-old Juan Jose Cervantes, were at home when they began arguing. The argument escalated to a physical fight, ending with Cervantes stabbing Pacheco.

Cervantes then fled the scene, and was later located at a residence in the 300 block of Parkside Court in Greenfield. He was arrested without incident and taken to Monterey County Jail on one count of homicide.

“No other information is being released at this time, as the investigation is continuing,” police said.

The investigation was led by the South County Major Crimes Investigations Unit, a collaboration between Greenfield and King City police departments.
