Runners compete at Earlybird Invitational

Cross country runners from Gonzales, Greenfield, and King City joined over 70 teams and 2000 plus runners at the Earlybird Invitational Cross Country Meet.

The Greenfield High varsity boys cross country team placed third in their division at the Chieftain-Spirit Classic Invitational on Saturday at Toro Regional Park in Salinas. The meet featured over 700 runners competed in three divisions for the boys and girls.

A potent running game and a short field was all the Coalinga High Horned Toads needed to defeat the Gonzales Spartans on Friday at Dick Force Stadium. Coalinga improved to 2-0 after the 48-14 win and Gonzales fell to 0-2 in non-league play.

Junior Grace Shepherd finished with 17 kills and senior Megan Flores had 22 assists as the King City Lady Mustangs won their season opener 3-0 over the host Alisal High Trojans last Thursday in the Mustang Gym.
