School board selects new superintendent

GREENFIELD — Greenfield Union School District Board of Trustees has selected a new superintendent to lead the district for the next three years, just in time for the first day of school next Tuesday.

Zandra Jo Galvan, former assistant superintendent of education services for the Gonzales Unified School District, was given a three-year contract beginning Aug. 3. Her annual salary will be $210,000, which could increase for future years at the school board’s discretion.

Additional benefits include an automobile allowance of $400 per month and the use of a cell phone for $100 each month, as well as health and life insurance.

The district may also pay for the services of a coach or mentor to help the new superintendent during the first 12 months of her employment. According to the contract, the cost cannot exceed $12,000.

Galvan, as superintendent, will manage the day-to-day operations of the district. She will be the board’s chief administrative officer and have primary responsibility in making recommendations to the board regarding all personnel matters, including employment, assignment, transfer and dismissal of employees.

Galvan replaces former superintendent Kim Berman, who left the position after one year to accept a job at another school district.
