GREENFIELD — Acting Police Chief Gregory Allen has accepted the position of police chief for Morro Bay, announced the Greenfield Police Department in a news release.
Allen, who came to Greenfield with 34 years of law enforcement experience with the Los Angeles Police Department, was selected out of more than 40 candidates. He will be sworn in June 2.
Allen started his career in Greenfield as police commander in October 2015, before serving as the department’s acting chief for the past eight months.
“It has been an honor to lead and work with the professional and dedicated men and women of the Greenfield Police Department, as well as the Greenfield community,” Allen said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of this wonderful community that has embraced and supported our police mission of serving, protecting and enhancing public safety.”
Allen said he is proud of the Greenfield Police Department employees and their hard work to reduce crime and improve the quality of life for the city of Greenfield.
Allen’s departure comes just as the city selected a permanent city manager, Jaime Fontes, who will now have the task of finding a new police chief.
