GREENFIELD — Cesar Chavez Elementary School’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is helping a local student battling cancer and hosted a snow cone sale June 6.
The PTA sold popsicles to students during the day on Thursday and snow cones after school to help raise funds for fourth grader Israel Ramirez Alvarez. The fundraising took place all week with donations from students, teachers and staff.
The group raised about $1,250 for Alvarez’s cancer battle.
School staff was in awe of the compassion and support from the students and community, with donations still being made on Friday, the last day of school.
