Gilbert Luevano Lopez, 59, of Greenfield, passed away peacefully, at home surrounded by family, Friday, May 4, 2018.
Gilbert was born September 23, 1958 in Cuidad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico and has been a resident of Monterey County since 1968. He was employed in welding, having worked in the Salinas Valley for over 20 years. Gilbert loved smoking cigarettes and fixing and tuning up lawnmowers. He was a collector of coins and antiques. He loved his family, riding his bike and listening to music in his garage. He was a strong man who fought cancer for 1 year and 4 months, and never gave up fighting.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Terry Lopez of Greenfield; children, Steven (Monica) Lopez of Greenfield, Stephanie (Moses) Sims of Greenfield, Samantha (Daniel) Villanueva of Greenfield, Gilbert (Maribel) Lopez Jr of Soledad, Noralisa (Juan) Contreras of Soledad, Erica (Octavio) Bravo of Soledad; 19 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; siblings, Jesse (Anita) Lopez of King City, Mary (Bill) Goenne of King City, Salvador (Ramona) Lopez of Greenfield, Umberto (Monica) Lopez of Greenfield, Ida (Willie) Chan of Soledad; sisters-in-law, Guadalupe Lopez of Greenfield, Cindy Lopez of Greenfield, Annette Lopez of Greenfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anselmo & Antonia Lopez; brothers, Rene, Anselmo Jr, Javier; nephew, Rene Jr.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 10, 2018 from 4 to 7 pm at Woodyard Funeral Home, Soledad; followed with rosary at 7 pm. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, May 11, 2018 at 10 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Greenfield, followed with burial at the Greenfield Cemetery District.
