Former police officer sentenced for embezzlement

GREENFIELD — A former Greenfield police officer was sentenced last week to three years of probation for felonious embezzlement that occurred during his tenure as president of the Greenfield Police Officers’ Association.

According to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office, Arnulfo Trevino of Gonzales had embezzled $31,318 from the Association over the course of the four years he acted as president, from August 2013 to October 2017.

During that time, Trevino, 45, was solely responsible for managing the Association’s financial accounts and paying all of its bills.

Last October other officers learned that the Association’s account with the Police Officers Research Association of California was past due and that, consequently, they were not entitled to legal representation and other member benefits.

“When confronted by other Greenfield officers, Trevino admitted that he had been financially struggling and had used the Association’s money for his own purposes,” said the District Attorney’s Office in a news release.

In addition to three years of felony probation, Trevino was sentenced to 90 days in jail.

At the time of sentencing on Jan. 30, Trevino provided proof to the court that he had made full restitution to the Association.
