GREENFIELD — Measure C, which ensures the future of the Greenfield Fire Protection District, is passing, according to the latest numbers released May 5 from Monterey County Elections.
Out of the 947 voters who mailed in their ballots for the May 2 Special Parcel Tax Election, 647 voted in favor of the tax that would benefit the Greenfield Fire Protection District. The measure needed two-thirds majority to vote in favor of the tax, and with 68.32 percent, it is looking like the measure will move forward.
Voter turnout was at just over 20 percent.
“We want to thank the voters of Greenfield for passing the measure and making sure that the future of fire response in Greenfield is much improved,” said Fire Chief Rich Foster.
Measure C was close to passing on Tuesday evening with the first numbers that were reported by the Monterey County Elections. At that time, ballots were still out that needed to be counted, and the proponents of Measure C were able to get the majority of the remaining roughly 180 votes to be in favor of the measure.
Measure C would mean that two firefighters would be working at all times and be able to respond to fires and emergency situations.
