SOUTH COUNTY — California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB) will host a dialogue about educational attainment and lifelong learning tomorrow evening for local families and community members.

As part of the college’s 2018 “Community Dialogues” series on contentious national issues, the South County event will take place Thursday, May 3, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Salinas Valley Fairgrounds, 625 Division St., in King City. CSUMB President Eduardo M. Ochoa will facilitate the dialogue.

“This event will focus on K-12 education, preparing for college and lifelong learning,” Ochoa said. “The goal of our community dialogues is to bring together people with different perspectives, promote understanding and build consensus. We expect this event will be both informative and constructive for the community.”

Panelists include Zandra Jo Galvan, superintendent of Greenfield Union School District; Erica Padilla-Chavez, CEO of Pajaro Valley Prevention and Student Assistance Inc.; and Jose Luis Alvarado, dean of CSUMB’s College of Education. Spanish-speaking facilitators will be available, along with light refreshments.

According to CSUMB, the Community Dialogues are made possible through a contribution from Bud and Rebecca Colligan. The series is “in keeping with CSUMB’s role as a community resource, providing forums for provocative discussions that can impact thought and action on issues important to our community,” the college says.
