GREENFIELD — The City of Greenfield has found a new police chief after conducting an extensive recruitment and testing program, announced Greenfield City Manager Jaime Fontes on Friday.
Denise Chavez Oglesby will be sworn in as chief of police during a ceremony today, Dec. 20, at 6 p.m. at the Greenfield Civic Center, 599 El Camino Real. The community is invited to attend.
“Chief Oglesby is bringing the absolute highest work ethic and commitment to public service in Greenfield,” Fontes said in a news release. “The City of Greenfield is very proud to welcome her as our next chief of police.”
Oglesby is a retired detective lieutenant from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD), where she worked for 34 years. In her last position, she was in charge of supervising seven sergeants and 22 detectives in the department’s Narcotics Bureau.
She previously worked as a watch commander/detective at the Carson Station, watch commander at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles, staff instructor sergeant at the Sheriff’s Academy and field sergeant/detective sergeant at Cerritos Station, all with the LASD.
Oglesby, who has been married to her husband Ted for 30 years, is a graduate of Chapman University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a master’s degree in organizational leadership. She also attended the Executive Leadership Program at Cornell University in New York.
Fontes called Oglesby a “disciplined athlete” who completed an ironman triathlon in Arizona last year.
She will take over the Greenfield position from Interim Police Chief Tony Sollecito, who filled in when former acting chief Gregory Allen accepted a job with the Morro Bay Police Department in April.
