GREENFIELD — The City Council of Greenfield and the Greenfield Union School District have agreed to hold joint meetings beginning May 11 at 6 p.m. at the Greenfield Civic Center.
Greenfield Union School District Superintendent Kimberly Berman sent a letter to the city asking for a joint School Board and City Council meeting. A similar meeting is held in the City of Gonzales. One of the reasons given for the joint meeting was that the two organizations serve the same residents and community members.
“In most cities I’ve worked with, a periodic joint meeting with the local school board generally results in a very positive discussion,” Interim City Manager Robert Perrault said. Berman said the meetings would be best for the Greenfield Union School District if they were held on the second or fourth Thursdays of the month. The location of the joint meeting would either be the Greenfield Union School District offices on El Camino Real or the Greenfield Civic Center.
It was a recommendation of Perrault’s that the scheduling of the meeting not take place until after the new city manager, Jaime Fontes, starts in May.
“Anytime that you can work with the school district and tighten up that gap and do the best for our community is a good thing,” remarked resident John Martinez.
