GREENFIELD — Greenfield’s first new retail projects located on Walnut Avenue will break ground within the next couple of months, announced City of Greenfield Community Services Director Mic Steinmann.
As part of the City’s Walnut Avenue Specific Plan, three businesses — ARCO gas station, Carl’s Jr. and Starbucks — will begin development in the area within the next 45 to 60 days.
“The entire community is excited to welcome these new businesses to Greenfield,” Steinmann said.
The businesses are expected to have their grand openings later this year, either in the summer or fall.
“This is just the beginning,” said Steinmann, adding that over the next several months more announcements will be made for the start of the project’s next phase of development.
The next phase includes a multi-tenant retail building, a new hotel and additional retailers and food service establishments. Steinmann said the development will “bring new opportunities and new and different retailers to Greenfield.”
Progress is also being made on other projects currently in the works.
The Yanks Air Museum, located off Livingston Road at the north end of town and adjacent to Yanks RV Resort, is working toward the start of construction. The 440-acre project dedicated to the world of aviation will feature a collection of restored aircraft, an education center, a state-of-the-art theater and a 4,250-square-foot runway for museum and private flight operations.
Steinmann said the South End Annexation project will be completed soon as well. Located south of town, the 290-acre area will be home to new housing, highway commercial space and industrial development.
