Bruins squash Toads, 4-3

GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Bruin baseball team won the second game in a doubleheader on Thursday against the visiting Coalinga Horned Toads. Greenfield had two extra base hits and six singles in the 4-3 victory to improve to 6-7.

Jesus Soto started the game on the mound for the Bruins and went 2.1 innings before being replaced by Alexis Zavala who pitched the final 3.2 innings. Greenfield took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second until the Horned Toads tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the third.

The Bruins regained the lead at 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth then Coalinga tied the game at the top of the top of the fifth. Greenfield scored the winning run in the bottom of the inning for the win.

Oscar Villagomez and Jesus Soto hit doubles for the Bruins and Andrew Trujillo hit two singles. Also contributing with hits were Agustin Pantoja, Izaiah Mora, Cristobal Vega, and Matthew Cortez.

Coalinga limited the Bruins to one hit in the Horned Toads 6-3 win. Vega started the game at pitcher and allowed three runs in the top of the first inning.

Andrew Trujillo pitched the final three inning of the game. Jesus Soto hit Bruins lone hit.

“We attempted to beat the rain,” said Greenfield head coach Ray Green. “With rain scheduled for Saturday we moved the game up a couple of days. We will play Gonzales this week in league games.”
