GREENFIELD — Arroyo Seco Citizen’s Association will present the Arroyo Seco Duck Race this Saturday to raise funds for the local fire station and its volunteer firefighters.
The April 28 event features not only a duck race, but also live music and a barbecue along the Arroyo Seco River from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Coelho Ranch, 47201 Arroyo Seco Road, in Greenfield.
Parking is free, and a shuttle to the river will be available.
The Duck Race begins at the rapids, where the ducks will be launched into the river 700 feet upstream of the bridge, which is the finish line. There are 10 prizes available for the winning ducks, including up to $2,000 for the first-place winner.
The barbecue includes chicken, beans and corn on the cob for $10 per plate ($5 for association members). Beer, soft drinks and water will also be available for purchase.
Additionally, two bands are scheduled to perform throughout the event — Kings of the Valley from Carmel Valley and Cruz Control from Santa Cruz.
According to the Arroyo Seco Citizen’s Association, the Duck Race is the nonprofit’s main fundraiser. Half of the event’s proceeds will go toward supporting the recruitment, training and honorariums of the volunteer firefighters from Arroyo Seco Fire Station 20.
One duck can be sponsored for $10 or three ducks for $25.
Sponsorships are tax deductible, and winners do not need to be present to receive their prize.
To sponsor a duck, go online to www.eventbrite.com and search for “Arroyo Seco Duck Race,” or contact any Arroyo Seco Citizen’s Association board member.
