Atha M. Sportsman, 96, and longtime South Monterey County Resident, passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2019.
Atha was born April 28, 1922 in Keytesville, Missouri. She was married for 37 years to Howard Sportsman. She enjoyed gardening, reading and playing cards with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Atha had her own rules when it came to playing games with her grandchildren and great grandchildren (always in their favor).Atha was a member for 33 years with the Greenfield Freewill Baptist Church, 10 yrs with the Greenfield Missionary Baptist Church and a member of the Greenfield American Legion Auxilary for 61 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Dora Sportsman Cochran of King City; sons, Howard Gail Sportsman and wife Martha of Kentucky and John Sportsman and his wife, Debbie of Las Vegas, Nevada; 13 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren; her sister, Nadine Flathouse of Texas and 2 brothers, Robert Lewis and Rodney Lewis of Missouri.
Atha is preceded in death by her husband, Howard Sportsman and a daughter, Ann Hicks.
A Graveside Service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at King City District Cemetery, 1010 Broadway in King City, Calif.
