7 medical marijuana facilities up for review

GREENFIELD — The public review period to comment on the Mitigated Negative Declaration that addresses potential environmental impacts for seven proposed medical marijuana facilities in Greenfield ends June 20.

According to the City of Greenfield, seven cultivation and manufacturing facilities for medical marijuana have applied for use permits. Since all the project sites are located north of Greenfield along El Camino Real, the city is evaluating them within one initial study to streamline the environmental review.

In compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act, the study was prepared for the purpose of determining whether these projects might have a significant effect on the environment.

The seven proposed medical marijuana facilities are: Cannaculture Collective, 802 El Camino Real; Kool Gildea, 600 Cypress Ave.; Redhunt Corporation, 600 Pine Ave.; Greenfield Zen Brand, 689 El Camino Real; Golden State Alternative Care, 799 El Camino Real; Emerald Mission, 801 El Camino Real; and Paper Plane Traders, 851 El Camino Real.

The study found that any potential impacts “have been mitigated to a point where no significant effects will occur.” Two reasons that support this claim were that the proposals are a logical component of the existing land use of this area and a mitigation monitoring and reporting program has been prepared to address any adverse impacts on site.

“There is no substantial evidence the project will have a significant effect on the environment,” the report stated.

The city intends to adopt the Mitigated Negative Declaration, which presents findings related to environmental conditions and includes mitigation measures to avoid potentially significant effects.

A public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, June 27, at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 599 El Camino Real.

Written comments may be sent to Community Services Director Mic Steinmann, City of Greenfield, 599 El Camino Real, Greenfield, CA 93927, or via email [email protected].
