GREENFIELD — Coloring, cookie decorating, Easter photos and more took over the Greenfield Community Center as families and their children with special needs were treated to a fun-filled day.
Special Kids Connect brought the second annual Spring Carnival to more than 43 families April 13. The organization puts on a Christmas event, Photos with Santa, in December that has occurred the past two years in Greenfield.
“We invited a few agencies who serve families with children with special needs in South Monterey County,” said Executive Director Lori Luzader.
Each of the resource agencies provided a resource table and an activity for children. Tables for cookie decorating as well as for coloring were available, and families were provided with Easter egg baskets.
About 200 families showed up to the event and made the rounds through the booths and activities.
Special Kids Connect provides support to families who have individuals with disabilities.
“Our event was funded by the California Developmental Services to provide outreach support for families with individuals with developmental disabilities,” Luzader said.
Luzader and the resource agencies were welcomed by the City of Greenfield and Recreation Coordinator Jesus Perez, who allowed use of the community room at Patriot Park.
“Jesus also provided games and prizes for families and kids,” Luzader added. “The families in Greenfield were just so incredibly grateful.”
A representative from Special Kids Connect is available at the Community Center every Saturday between 1 and 5 p.m. to help families find resources.
