SOUTH COUNTY — The regular season ends this week for local high school volleyball teams as Mission Trail Athletic League games were played on Monday and today. King City has two games remaining and will be seeded on Saturday in the Central Coast Section Division IV Playoffs.
King City played two games last week, defeating Anzar and Gonzales. The Lady Mustangs beat the Hawks 25-11, 25-9, 25-18 and swept the Spartans 25-4, 25-15, and 25-14.
Against Anzar Grace Shepherd filled her stat sheet with15 kills, nine digs, and served nine aces. Megan Flores finished with seven kills, 17 assists, and nine digs. Cassidy Flores had three kills, a team-high 22 assists and five digs. Nancy Andrade had seven kills, and five digs and Delaney Carroll contributed with seven kills and seven assists while Ana Mendez had six digs.
In the game with Gonzales Shepherd led the Lady Mustangs with 15 kills and added six digs. Megan Flores led the team with 17 assists, had seven kills, and three digs. Cassidy Flores added 13 assists, served four aces, and finished with three digs.
Delaney Carroll served five aces and added five kills. Nancy Arreola had seven digs and Ana Mendez had three digs. King City played Monday at Soledad High and complete the league season today by hosting the Carmel Padres.
The Aztecs beat Stevenson last week, 25-8, 25-17, 25-13 and lost to Santa Catalina in three, 25-13, 25-12, 25-9. Soledad hosted King City on Monday and play at Pacific Grove today.
Gonzales High completed the season with road games, as the Spartans played Monday at Carmel and will play the Anzar Hawks in San Juan Bautista tonight.
In the Coastal League last week the Greenfield Bruins beat Kirby in five games and lost in three sets to the York School. Greenfield completed the season last night at home against Pacific Collegiate.
“We played high intensity games with Kirby,” said Greenfield head coach Mark Francis. “We lost the first two then had to fight to win the third game. The final two games were really close but we sealed the win with good serving. We led in the games with York and I was pleased how we played.”
