Soledad wins 17th game; tied for 2nd in league

SALINAS — Adrian Lopez allowed three hits in six innings to earn the pitching victory in a 2-0 shutout win over Alisal High by the Soledad Aztec varsity baseball team on April 19 at Hartnell College in Salinas.

Lopez helped his own cause with two hits and a run batted in as the Aztecs improved their overall record to 17-3. Chris Villarreal contributed with an RBI in the non-league game with the Trojans.

On Friday the Aztecs lost for just the first time in non-league play, falling 11-1 against the Santa Cruz High Cardinals in a game played in Soledad. The Aztecs resumed Mission Trail Athletic League play yesterday at Greenfield High. Soledad is tied for second in the MTAL standings with the Bruins at 10-2.

On Friday the Aztecs will host Greenfield. With just a few weeks of league play remaining Soledad will play an away and home series with the league-league Pacific Grove Breakers (11-1), and complete the regular season with an away and home series with the King City Mustangs.

Greenfield has an away and home series with Marina next week, and finishes the regular season with home and away games with Pacific Grove.

The Central Coast Section playoffs begin on May 17 and Soledad, Greenfield, and King City are contending for league titles and playoff spots.
