SOUTH COUNTY — Salinas Valley Fair Inc. is looking for directors to serve on the Salinas Valley Fair Board. Directors are unpaid, volunteers of the fair.
Directors are expected to commit up to two hours per month to attend board meetings, attend the annual Western Fairs Association Convention, be present for annual board retreats and fulfill volunteer duties as assigned during the annual Salinas Valley Fair in King City.
Collectively, the Salinas Valley Fair board helps to: Create and implement the Salinas Valley Fair strategic and master plan; develop policy that ensures the success of the Salinas Valley Fair; seek funding for the Salinas Valley Fair; produce the annual Salinas Valley Fair by chairing or volunteering on one of the fair’s 15 active committees; and support fundraising efforts by the Salinas Valley Fair’s Heritage Foundation.
The fair seeks a mix of cultural, racial, gender, professional and geographical diversity for the board.
The Salinas Valley Fair Board ideally should be a mix of members who have a variety of work experiences in agriculture, law, finance, education, organizational development, public relations, policy and grant writing.
Ideal candidates will have attended the Salinas Valley Fair and other fairs, demonstrate business acumen and show a willingness to lead while also contributing as a member of a team.
Board members are to be at least 21 years old and a resident of Monterey, San Benito, Santa Cruz or San Luis Obispo counties.
Interested applicants are to submit a letter describing their interest in the position to the Salinas Valley Fair postmarked no later than Friday, Aug. 3.
