GREENFIELD — The host Pacific Grove Breakers scored in double digits every quarter to overwhelm the Greenfield Bruins boys basketball 66-40 last Tuesday night on the Monterey Peninsula. The Breakers improved to 3-0 in the Mission Trail Athletic League and the Bruins dropped their third straight league game.
Oscar Villagomez led Greenfield with 10 points, including two 3-point baskets while collecting two rebounds and making one steal. Angel Espinosa scored nine points with three 3-point baskets with three rebounds and four assists. Angel Villagomez contributed with six points and three rebounds and Andy Espinosa added four points.
Pacific Grove led 16-7 at the end of the first quarter and built the halftime lead to 37-14. Greenfield was outscored 40-17 in the second half.
In the JV contest the Breakers defeated Greenfield, 38-34. Freshman Ernie Martinez had 14 points with seven blocks, five rebounds, and two assists. Kenny Martinez scored seven points with three rebounds and three steals.
“It was a very close game,” said Greenfield JV head coach Efren Dominguez. “The game was tied 34-34 with two minutes left in the fourth quarter. We couldn’t score in our last two possessions. We are now 1-2 in league.”
The Greenfield teams play Trinity Christian today in Monterey and travel to the Monterey Peninsula again on Friday to play Robert Louis Stevenson at Pebble Beach.
