Munoz, Contawe in finals

SOUTH COUNTY — For the second straight year Roman Munoz of King City and Daniel Contawe of Soledad will be representing their respective high schools on Friday at the Central Coast Section Track and Field Championships. Munoz qualified for the State Meet last season and Contawe is looking for his first trip to State. Munoz will be competing in the CCS finals in the 1600 and Contawe in the shot put.

At Saturday’s CCS semifinals at Gilroy High School Munoz placed third in the 1600 in a time of 4:19.02 and Contawe placed fifth in the shot put with a best of 50-10. Jorge Estrella of Andrew Hill placed first in the 1600 in 4:18.02 and Elijah Folau of Junipero Serra won the shot put with a mark of 53-00 ½. To qualify for State Munoz must place in the top three in the 1600 or run the race in a qualifying mark of 4:14.83. Contawe must also place in the top three or throw a season best of 55-00.

At this Friday CCS finals Munoz will run in his specialty at 6:28 and Contawe will throw the shot at 6:35. The California Interscholastic Federation State Meet will take place on June 2nd and 3rd at Buchanan High School in Clovis.

In Saturday’s semifinals Gonzales High was represented by Pablo Villansenor who placed 18th the shot put (45-5) and 27th in the discus (118-7). Other participants for the Spartans were: Jasmin Amadao, 32nd in the shot put 26-7 and 31st in the discus in 82-0. The girls 4 x 100 relay team placed 31st in 54.92 and the boys 4 x 400 relay team placed 31st in 3:51.82. Members of the girls relay team were: Alyssa Martinez, Bianca Sanchez, Athena Landeros, Madisyn Schweitzer. Team members of the long relay were: Ulysses Fierros, Nathan Perez, Hernan Mojica, and Damian Acosta. Sprinter Damian Acosta placed 31st in the 200 in 24.22 and 35th in the 100 in 11.69. Matthew Cortez placed 27th in the triple jump with a best of 39-9 ¼.

Competing at CCS for King City were: Jesus Avalos, Xavier Salone, Jhames Bautista, Isidro Cabrera, and Christian Olmos. Avalos placed 23rd in 3200 in time of 10:30.21; Salone placed 32nd in the 400 in 56.20; Bautista placed 25th in the 300 hurdles in 44.63; and Cabrera placed 25th in the 300 hurdles in 44.63. Olmos placed 34th in the 100 meters and the 4 x 100 boys relay team placed 29th in 45.88. Relay team members were: Christian Olmos, Christian Rose, Robert Reyes, Bryce McEwen.

The Soledad boys relay team placed 26th in a time of 45.76. Relay team members were: Miguel Gonzalez, Emanuel Ortega, Jesus Rodriguez, and Ulises Camarena. Camarena also placed 20th in the 300 hurdles in 43.69 and Belen Flores placed 29th in the time of 51.2 in the girls 300 hurdles. Rodrigo Garcia represented Greenfield High in the 3200 and placed 27th in a time of 10:55.48.
