Community support for veterans

The members of VFW Post 6747 would like to send a very special thanks to all of the people of the community who continue to support us. Your support at the Salinas Valley Fair and at the Memorial Day BBQ held at the Post was truly appreciated. It was also great to see a large turnout for the Fourth of July parade in downtown King City.

We also hope that everyone appreciated and took time to give thought to what all of the flags that were flown at the cemetery on Memorial Day and the Fourth of July stood for. Each flag represents a veteran that is no longer with us that someone sponsored a flag through the Avenue of Flags from your local VFW.

With your support, together we are helping our local veterans who need our help. Without your help we cannot help our fellow veterans. So once again the members of VFW Post 6747 would like to thank you for your support and hope that you will keep supporting us in the future so we can support our local veterans who need our help.

And, if you are a veteran of a foreign war, please stop by the Post the second Wednesday of each month and join us. Thank you.

Superintendent search

I would like to encourage our Greenfield community members to attend our next Greenfield Unified School District (GUSD) school board meeting. Our next board meeting is Thursday, Aug. 3, beginning with closed session at 5:30 p.m. and regular meeting at 6:30 p.m.

How many of our community members knew about the unfair treatment our former superintendent received from our GUSD school board?

School board members are in the process of selecting a new superintendent and vice superintendent. These are two very important positions because there are many important decisions to be made, such as our new school, Mary Chapa modernization construction, unification and we are in need of various certificated teachers, etc.

We need to let the GUSD board members know to not make a hasty decision for this position. Per board member Sandra Cante, and I quote, they “hope to find a new leadership that has ties with our community.” A consultant service has been hired in the amount of $12,500 in the search to fill the superintendent position.

Our district has a great and highly qualified employee to be that leader that our district is looking for and to add to that also has very high ties with our community, but the board has many personal vendettas. That needs to stop.

In my opinion, the GUSD school board is not only micromanaging but breaking the Brown Act rules. There might be other surprises that we are not aware of.
