GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Lady Bruins softball team exploded for 37 runs and a combined 36 hits in wins last week against the Trinity Christian Warriors and the Anzar Hawks.
Greenfield defeated Trinity by a 20-6 score and hammered the Hawks, 17-2.
Andrea Pantoja got busy on the base paths against Trinity as she singled in the first inning, singled in the second inning, doubled in the third inning, and hit a grand slam in the fourth inning. Cynthia Morales contributed to the offense with a homerun.
Helping the team tally 23 hits were: Aligha Ramey, Andrea Pantoja, Elizabeth Avalos, Vanessa Contreras, Ariel Carrillo, Dyanna Flores, Norma Ornales, and Cynthia Morales. Norma Ornales earned the victory on the mound for Greenfield.
On Friday in San Juan Bautista the Lady Bruins settled for 13 hits in the victory over the host Anzar Hawks. Greenfield got on the scoreboard in the first inning scoring six runs and continued to bang the ball with six runs in the second inning. The offensive onslaught came from singles by Ariel Carrillo and Cynthia Morales, and doubles by Andrea Pantoja and Norma Ornales.
The pitching win was credited to Ornales who went three and a third innings allowing two runs on one hit and striking out five.
Ashley Ramey threw one and two-third innings in relief out of the bullpen. Carrillo, Avalos, and Vanessa Contreras all managed multiple hits for Greenfield. Contreras, Avalos, and Carrillo each collected two hits to lead the Bruins.
Greenfield improved to 8-5 in the Mission Trail Athletic League for a first place tie with Gonzales.
