King City jumper Jalen Mendez takes an attempt in the triple jump at Thursday’s Cluster Meet in King City. Mendez will participate in all the jumping events at the MTAL Frosh-Soph Championships.
SOUTH COUNTY — South County high school track and field teams took part in the Mission Trail Athletic League Cluster Meet on Thursday afternoon at War Memorial Stadium in King City. Also participating in the meet were Anzar, Kirby, Santa Catalina, Marina, Oakwood and York.
Tomorrow in King City the MTAL Frosh-Soph Championships will take place at War Memorial Stadium. King City will be a favorite in the boys division and Soledad could be the top team in the girls division.
On Saturday King City, Greenfield, and Soledad traveled to Salinas for the North Salinas Invitational and Relays. Palma High School won the varsity boys division with Gonzales placing fifth, the King City boys placed sixth, and Soledad placed ninth. Notre Dame of Salinas won the varsity girls division. King City placed sixth, Gonzales placed seventh, and Soledad placed eighth.
The King City boys won the frosh-soph division, outscoring second place Alisal, 143.5 to 103.
Soledad placed fifth and Gonzales placed tenth. North Salinas won the frosh-soph girls division, beating second place Soledad 139 to 102.
