High school board welcomes newest member

KING CITY — South Monterey County Joint Union High School District welcomed a new member, Irene Garcia, to its board April 17.

Garcia attended King City High School and resides in Greenfield. She fills the fourth board member seat, with one seat still remaining vacant.

“Thank you very much for giving me this opportunity,” Garcia said. “I hope that I will do well to represent both King City High School and Greenfield High, and that we get more community participation to our meetings.”

At her first meeting, Garcia was able to hear about such events as “The Nightingale” ballet that took place the previous weekend. Board Member Paul Dake spoke about his time walking through Greenfield High School with Principal Frank Lynch and observed retiring French teacher Daniela Patrut in her classroom.

Board President David Gaboni visited Greenfield High as well to see the solar panels.

Superintendent Brian Walker spoke about the upcoming construction projects for the King City High School Agricultural Department. In the future, the trustees will have to make a decision about whether to keep the department where it currently is or move it closer to where the animals are housed by the football stadium.
