GREENFIELD — A 42-year-old Greenfield woman was sentenced last week to three years and four months in prison for three separate incidents in 2016 involving first-degree residential burglary, identity theft and petty theft.
On March 20, 2016, Lorena Rojas Mendoza was caught using a stolen debit card to make purchases at a gas station. Police said the victim had been knocked unconscious during a robbery two days earlier and woke up in the hospital to find his wallet had been stolen. According to the report, Mendoza falsely identified herself as a relative of the victim and claimed that he had given her permission to use the card.
Three months later, on June 13, 2016, Mendoza stole a UPS package off a neighbor’s porch. She was captured on the victim’s private surveillance camera.
Then, on June 27, 2016, a woman came home to find Mendoza in her attached garage, loading the victim’s property into a baby stroller. She did not know Mendoza and did not give her permission to enter or take any items, police said. Mendoza falsely claimed to have witnessed two men burglarizing the victim’s home and said she was putting the items back when captured.
All three cases were investigated by the Greenfield Police Department. Mendoza was sentenced June 13 by Monterey Superior Court Judge Carrie M. Panetta.
