GREENFIELD — A successful season came to an end for the Greenfield High boys cross country team as they competed on Saturday at the California Interscholastic Federation State Meet at Fresno’s Woodward Park. Competing in the Division III the Bruins placed 13th overall as a team.
“I felt we did a great job,” said Greenfield head coach Angel Villagomez. “The only thing that didn’t go so well is that Rigo Garcia tripped with another runner, mid race and never recovered. He was bruised and bleeding but wanted to finish.”
Luis Meza led the Bruins, finishing 41st overall with a time of 16:34. Other Greenfield placers were: Julian Arias (52nd) 16:35; Mauricio Arias (55th) 16:41; Nahum Valencia (123rd) 17:19; Alexis Ojeda (127th) 17:21; Daniel Cerna (170th) 18:01; Rigo Garcia (173rd) 18:04.
West Torrance of the Southern Section was the team winner in Division III and Liam Anderson of Redwood High School was the State champion in a time of 15:10. Rounding out the top 13 teams in Division III were: La Costa Canyon, Brea Olinda, Palos Verdes, Campolindo, Ridgeview, Whittier, Moorpark, St. John Bosco, Maria Carrillo, Aptos, Ocean View, Greenfield.
Greenfield won their third straight Mission Trail Athletic League championship this season and were the runner-up team in the Central Coast Section Division III finals behind Aptos.
