GREENFIELD — On Sept. 7, at about 8:50 p.m., a citizen called 911 and reported a subject who shot a firearm in the 300 block of Apple Avenue in the City of Greenfield, and was still in the area.
When Greenfield Police officers arrived, they heard an additional single shot. Officers saw two subjects in the area, 43-year-old Efren Morales Ballesteros and 35-year-old Javier Dejesus Cruz, both Greenfield residents.
Ballesteros was detained, but Cruz fled on foot, crossing Highway 101. Officers were able to locate Cruz in the 100 block of Fifth Street. He was found to be in possession of a semi-automatic handgun and drug paraphernalia. Cruz admitted to firing the handgun in the air several times.
Cruz was arrested for negligent discharge of a firearm, possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of a concealed firearm. Ballesteros was arrested for violation of probation.
Both were booked and transported to the Monterey County Jail.
