GREENFIELD — Ismael Valdez, 37, of Greenfield, was found guilty by jury of battery upon a peace officer, resisting an officer and assault on peace officers. The case was heard by Superior Court Judge Efren Iglesia.
On March 12, Greenfield Peace Officers were flagged down by a resident reporting that she feared her brother, Ismael Valdez, was hurting her father. The officers arrived at the residence to conduct an investigation and to check on the welfare and safety of the father.
When they arrived, Valdez resisted the officers’ attempts to investigate the reported crime. Valdez confronted the officers and he became violent. Valdez punched and kicked the officers.
Eventually, the officers were able to arrest Valdez after suffering painful blows to their legs and arms.
The jury found the defendant guilty on one count of battery upon a peace officer, one count of resisting an officer and two counts of assault on an officer. Judge Iglesia is scheduled to sentence the defendant on June 12.
