Greenfield loses road games

GREENFIELD — The Greenfield High Bruins boys basketball team lost their third straight road game to Monterey Peninsula teams to fall to 0-5 in the Mission Trail Athletic League. The Bruins fell 69-58 on Jan. 17 to the Trinity Christian Warriors and were beaten 75-45 last Friday by the Robert Louis Stevenson Pirates in Pebble Beach.

Against Trinity Christian the Bruins fell behind 15-4 in the first quarter, then fought back to trail by at 31-25 score at halftime. Greenfield fought hard in the second half but was unable to cut into the Warrior lead. Angel Espinosa led the Bruins in scoring with 17 points and 12 rebounds and Agustin Pantoja joined his teammate with a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Last Friday at Stevenson Angel Villagomez was the only Bruin to score in double figures, finishing with 10 points.

In the JV game the Bruins lost 54-53 in overtime to the Pirates. Freshman Ernie Martinez had a career-high 21 points, with four rebounds, and three steals. Freshman Patrick Cabot Jalon had eight points and two assists, and sophomore Daniel Patino added eight points and five rebounds.

In their first game of the week the Bruin JV team defeated Anzar, 45-42. Kenny Martinez led Greenfield with 14 points and added three rebounds and three assists. Daniel Patino contributed with eight points and seven rebounds and Daniel Rodriguez had nine points, 10 rebouds, and two blocked shots.

Last night Greenfield hosted King City and will be back on the road tomorrow to play Carmel.
