Greenfield hosts star-spangled spectacle

GREENFIELD — Greenfield celebrated America’s independence last Thursday with live music and dancing, food trucks, face painting and other family-friendly activities at Patriot Park.

The annual Fourth of July celebration, put on by the Greenfield Cultural Arts Center and the City of Greenfield, featured welcome remarks from Mayor Lance Walker and Mayor Pro Tem Yanely Martinez in addition to Monterey County Supervisor Chris Lopez and Councilmember Angela Untalon, who honored a few local veterans with certificates of recognition during the opening ceremony.

“Freedom isn’t free,” Walker said. “Our veterans, they’re the true heroes.”

Local scouts presented the flags and Greenfield native Celestina Ripley sang the National Anthem. Music was provided by El Kallpa Presents and the Vick Silva Band, along with a performance from children’s dance group Arcoiris Cultural.

The evening culminated with the city’s fireworks show at dusk.

“The Greenfield Fourth of July Volunteer Committee would like to thank our city council and staff and all the volunteers who have supported the event,” said Ellen Martin, executive director of the Greenfield Cultural Arts Center.
