More than 200 local children attended Fort Hunter Liggett’s Youth Fishing Derby on April 14 at Del Venturi Pond.
JOLON — Fort Hunter Liggett’s 16th annual Youth Fishing Derby opened on a sunny morning April 14 at Del Venturi Pond, drawing more than 200 local children age 15 and younger to compete for prizes.
Participants from around the community enjoyed the warm weather as youth competed to catch the largest fish of the day. Hosted by the U.S. Army’s Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR), the event included lunch, music, arts and crafts, face painting, fishing instructors and participation from the Fort Hunter Liggett Fire Department.
“Over 200 children had an awesome morning, and we would like to say thank you to everyone that made this event a success,” said Fort Hunter Liggett MWR officials.
The largest rainbow trout caught was 20-1/4 inches long. Prizes included a fishing pole and tackle box for the young winners.
