Bruins .500 in league

GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Bruins baseball team concluded the season with convincing wins over the Marina Mariners. Greenfield finished the Mission Trail Athletic League with a 9-9 record and were 12-14 overall.

The Bruins began the final week of play with a game on the road against Templeton on Monday, May 7. The Eagles had their offense going and defeated Greenfield 14-0. Jaime Soto, Andrew Trujillo and Matthew Cortez were the only Bruins with hits against Templeton.

In the first contest with the Mariners in Greenfield, Jaime Soto and Izaiah Mora had three runs batted in as the Bruins beat Marina by a 10-3 score. Alexis Zavala was the winning pitcher and allowed just three hits.

On Thursday, Greenfield played the last league game on the road and downed the Mariners 16-2. Soto threw in a no-hitter to earn the pitching victory and had a total of 10 strikeouts. Cristobal Soto hit a double and scored three runs. The Mariners committed eight errors and were unable to keep the Bruins stealing over a dozen bases.
