Barbecue, holiday tea fundraisers benefit SCAR, Historical Society

SOUTH COUNTY — South County Animal Rescue (SCAR) conducted back-to-back fundraisers Dec. 2 to conclude its 2017 fundraising efforts.

The first was a Swiss Sausage BBQ at Ramus Park, and the second was a Holiday Tea at the Soledad Historical Society. The tea was a joint fundraiser to also benefit the Historical Society, and each attendee received their own souvenir tea cup and saucer.

“We decided we needed to do one last fundraising push in 2017 due to the fact that about four to six weeks after Christmas, we anticipate an increase in the number of calls of those wishing to surrender their animals,” said Carla Stewart, SCAR board member. “Since we operate off of a foster system, we are always in need of new fosters in order to keep up with number of animals coming under our care. SCAR provides all the supplies — the foster only needs to provide a loving, temporary home until the animal is placed.”

South County Animal Rescue was founded in January 2016 and received its 501c3 non-profit organization status (Tax ID #81-2344689) in the fall of 2017. To date, SCAR has rescued more than 260 animals that would have potentially been unnecessarily euthanized.

“Our goal is to significantly reduce the homeless population of domestic animals in South County through safe rescue and adoption services, awareness and education. We strive to establish relationships with other rescue agencies and collaborate to save more lives,” Stewart said. “We ask that the South County communities please consider helping our efforts with a monetary contribution, volunteering to be a foster, or by adopting one of our animals.”
