Greenfield teenager shot to death

[Updated with more details about Sunday’s stabbing and suspect’s photo.]

GREENFIELD — A 17-year-old boy has died after being shot multiple times Sunday evening in the 1000 block of Oak Avenue, according to Greenfield Police.

Shortly before 8 p.m. on Nov. 19, officers responded to reports of shots fired in the area and a male victim laying on the ground. The boy was found suffering from gunshots and was taken to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas, where he died from his injuries. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Police said a team of investigators has been working throughout the night on the case, and a criminalist has been processing the crime scene.

“Right now, the motive for the murder is unknown,” police said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Greenfield Police at 831-674-5111 and speak with Detective Leo Guzman, or email him at [email protected].

Later that night, at about 11:33 p.m., police responded to an attempted murder at a downtown bar on El Camino Real, where a woman had stabbed a man multiple times with a knife. Upon the officers’ arrival, witnesses identified the assailant as 24-year-old Oney Martinez Perez of Greenfield.

ONEY PEREZ

The male victim was a patron of the bar and did not know Perez, police said. He suffered non-life threatening stab wounds to his head, upper torso and arm and was treated and released at the scene.

“Her attack on him appears to be random,” police said.

Perez was arrested shortly after midnight on Nov. 20 and taken to Monterey County Jail, where deputies found a knife — believed to be the assault weapon — under several layers of her clothing. She was charged with attempted murder, possession of narcotics and drug paraphernalia and bringing a weapon into the jail. Her bail was set at $1 million.
