KING CITY — On July 21, at about 12:10 p.m., King City Police Department officers were dispatched to Safeway, 530 Canal St., for a theft that just occurred.

Upon arrival, the police investigation revealed a Hispanic male adult, later identified as Adolfo Torres Sanchez, 22, of Greenfield, entered the store and removed several bottles of liquor, left the store bypassing several open cash registers and making no attempt to pay for the merchandise.

The store employees estimate the loss at about $200. Sanchez was seen getting into a vehicle and the store employees obtained a license number to the getaway vehicle. The registered owner was out of Greenfield.

With the assistance of Greenfield Police officers, the suspect vehicle was located in Greenfield.

Officers of the Greenfield and King City police departments contacted a witness who identified Sanchez as the suspect in the theft. Sanchez was contacted at a residence in the 200 block of Beech in Greenfield, where he was taken into custody without incident. Sanchez had no money on him and admitted to the theft.

A partial recovery of some of the stolen liquor was made. The estimated recovery is valued at about $25.

Sanchez was booked at the Monterey County Jail.
