Migrant and Seasonal Head Start enrolling children for 2017

SUBMITTED ARTICLE

SOUTH COUNTY — Community Action Partnership of San Luis Obispo County (CAPSLO) Migrant Seasonal Head Start is recruiting children in South Monterey County for the 2017 program year.

Migrant Seasonal Head Start is a federally funded early education and school readiness program for children, age’s birth to 5, from low-income families whose primary source of income is from agricultural work. Families that meet the eligibility criteria will have the opportunity to participate in this comprehensive early childhood education and family development program at no cost to the families that qualify.

Migrant and Seasonal Head Start serves children and families who meet the following eligibility requirements:

• The family is low-income/meets income eligibility based on family size;

• More than half the family’s income comes from agricultural sources; and

• The family has moved in the past 24 months for work-related reasons.

This program allows families to go to work with the knowledge that their children are receiving quality care and education experiences. In Monterey County, the program serves children and families through both center-based and family childcare options.

CAPSLO operates centers in King City, Greenfield, Soledad and Gonzales, which serve children from infancy to age 5. The family childcare option also serves children from infancy to age 5 in the homes of care providers who receive support and training from Migrant and Seasonal Head Start.

Anyone interested in enrolling in this program can call 831-678-1525. For more information, visit mshs.capslo.org. Note that the program closes annually.
