74th King City Track Invitational this Saturday

SOUTH COUNTY — Twenty-two teams will be at War Memorial Stadium this Saturday for the 74th Annual King City Young Lions and Young Farmers Invitational Track and Field Meet.

The event will start at 9:30 a.m. The track and field meet will include competition in the varsity boys, varsity girls, and JV boys divisions.

“This year we are dedicating the meet to the young generation,” said King City head coach and meet director David Daines. “We will be honoring Ismael Rocha, Evan Petrovic, Oscar Valdez, and Orlando Zendejas. I have coached all four of those young men and they are all a part of our current coaching staff. We are ready to run an efficient meet but still would appreciate some volunteer help the day of the event.”

Coaching the Mustang boys and girls team this season are Daines and assistants Steve McEnroe, Evan Petrovic, Orlando Zendejas, and Oscar Valdez.

The invitational will include Santa Cruz County teams San Lorenzo Valley, Watsonville, Scotts Valley, Santa Cruz, and Pajaro Valley. Monterey County teams attending are: Alisal, Everett Alvarez, Monterey, and Notre Dame/Palma. Hollister High will represent San Benito County and El Camino High will represent the Bay Area. Mission Trail Athletic League teams are: Gonzales, Greenfield, Pacific Grove, Santa Catalina, Soledad, Santa Catalina, Stevenson, and the host Mustang teams.

For more information on the invitational or anyone interested in volunteering to help, call David Daines at 831-262-0260.
