GREENFIELD — Three teenage boys were arrested and taken to Juvenile Hall last Friday on charges of rape, sodomy and oral copulation of a 14-year-old girl who was found intoxicated and lying on a sidewalk in Greenfield.
According to the Greenfield Police Department, officers assisted emergency medical personnel at about 8:45 p.m. on Aug. 9 in the 1000 block of Scott Circle regarding a report of a sick or injured female. The girl was extremely intoxicated and was taken to a Salinas-area hospital, police said.
Emergency room medical staff found evidence that she had been sexually assaulted and notified police. Her alcohol intoxication was near lethal levels, and she was airlifted to a San Jose-area trauma center for treatment.
Additional officers from Greenfield and two investigators from the District Attorney's Office were brought in to investigate the incident. Police said the investigation revealed that the victim was in the company of several teenage boys throughout the evening.
“Video footage from a home security system nearby captured when the boys returned to the victim’s home, carried her from the car while she was unconscious and left her on the sidewalk and fled the area,” police said in a news release.
Witnesses helped identify the teenagers, who were later found and questioned about that evening. As a result, the three juveniles — two age 16 and one 17 years old — were arrested Aug. 11. Their names were withheld because they are minors.
“Investigators were able to gather incriminating evidence after searching the suspects’ homes and a vehicle pursuant to a search warrant,” police said.
One of the boys is under investigation for a similar incident that happened on July 11, when an unconscious 12-year-old female was dumped in the 300 block of Ninth Street in Greenfield. She was intoxicated near lethal levels as well, but police said there was no indication she was sexually assaulted.
