South County cities win Clean Air awards

SOUTH COUNTY — The Cities of Gonzales, Greenfield, King City and Soledad received awards from the Monterey Bay Area Resources District for being Clean Air Leaders on June 22 at the Monterey Tides Hotel.

The awards were given to individuals, organizations and companies who demonstrate leadership by their actions in ensuring good air quality.

The awards included three categories: climate change advocate, technology and leadership.

Additionally, the Monterey Bay Area Resources District added a Special Award Presentation to honor the jurisdictions that actively worked to achieve significant reductions in community-wide greenhouse gases and/or reduction of energy use at their municipal facilities.

The City of Soledad and the City of Greenfield were recognized making significant reductions in energy use at its municipal facilities.

The City of King and the City of Gonzales were recognized for making significant reductions in community-wide greenhouse gases.

“Through research, innovation and technology, the City of Soledad will continue to identify operational improvements at every stage, to maximize our energy efficiency and minimize our GHG impact,” said council member Carla Stewart. “I am pleased to see our South County communities exploring ways to reduce our carbon footprint to help improve the lives of our future generations.”
