GREENFIELD — A Greenfield man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that injured one woman outside a local convenience store on Christmas Day.
Through tips from the public and other evidence, Greenfield Police and investigators from the Major Crimes Investigations Unit were able to identify the suspect as 34-year-old Aaron Aguilar, who was apprehended Wednesday and taken to Monterey County Jail on charges for assault with a deadly weapon/firearm.
According to reports, officers responded to a woman who was shot at 145 El Camino Real, near the Fastrip Food Store, at about 8:10 p.m. on Dec. 25. Upon contacting the victim, who was sitting on the sidewalk outside the store, officers provided medical aid until Greenfield Fire and American Medical Response arrived.
Police said the woman suffered one gunshot wound to her lower back. She was stabilized on scene and taken to a local trauma center, where she has since been released and is recovering.
After further investigation, police discovered that the woman was washing her car at a carwash in the 200 block of Fourth Street when a lone gunman, now identified as Aguilar, approached her from behind and fired two rounds in her direction. Aguilar then fled on foot from the area.
“No other information is being released at this time, as the investigation is continuing,” police said Thursday in a news release. “The investigators would like to thank the public for their cooperation during this investigation.”
