Kaatia Larsen sings along with special guests at Soledad Rotary meeting

SOUTH COUNTY — A special musical performance from Kaatia Larsen arrived at the Windmill Restaurant in Soledad on Aug. 24 in time for the Soledad Rotary Club meeting.

Larsen, a Soledad resident, has been singing and performing with Sol Treasures and the Stage Hands’ productions for years. Her most notable roles were as Cosette and Fantine in the Stage Hands’ “Les Miserables,” and she performed “The National Anthem” at the Vietnam Moving Wall exhibit at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds in King City.

“A couple of weeks ago Sol Treasures in King City was putting on some scholarship concerts to try to raise kids’ scholarships and they asked me if I wanted to do a concert,” said Larsen. “So I asked David Norum and Jeff Hinderscheid to do it with me.”

Norum and Hinderschied were also in “Les Miserables.”

Larsen is married to her husband Michael, and they have five children who are also involved in musical theater.

Larsen’s musical career began with youth experiences singing and co-creating Sweet Sixteen, a vocal group that performed at competitions and local events in Eagle River, Wis. She also played the role of Kim in “Bye-Bye Birdie” and performed in other drama productions.

In college she was a member of the University of Utah’s Women’s Chorus, a member of the A Cappella Choir and a member of the Institute Choir.

Larsen performed solos and ensembles at festivals, concerts, showcases and special events in Salt Lake City, Utah, before coming to Soledad.

The next production for Sol Treasures is the “Dinner Mystery” on Oct. 14 in the Orradre building of the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds. The show will feature Larsen and Norum as well as a special appearance by Monterey County Sheriff Steve Bernal, who will be singing during the event.
